It’s ANZAC Day today, here in Australia and in New Zealand. It is a national day of remembrance to honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps who fought at Gallipoli during World War I and now commemorates all those who served and died in military operations.
So, why am I telling you this?
Many sons die in war. Mothers and fathers send their children to war, hoping they will be safely returned to their arms. Some return whole, some return broken, some never return at all.
When our heavenly Father sent His Son to war He KNEW that He would die.
That He would die an unholy death.
Death plotted for by the leaders of the day.
Death by trickery
Death full of pain.
Death full of suffering.
Death by beating, cross bearing, lashing, spearing and hanging.
A death only Jesus would be able to overcome.
Why did our heavenly Father do this for us? Because He knew that this was the only way the war against sin could be won. That Jesus was, and still is the only way.
2 Corinthians 5:21 (NKJV)
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
